Monterey ,17 mile and pebble beach?

I'm going to take my family next weekend (4th july long weekend) to monterey and we r planning to stay there for 1 nite so just wondering where should we stay in monterey, carmel beach or pebble beach.we r going from fremont,ca.i know i can show them aqauirium, eaches and what else..i'm not familar witht that place and not good with driving directions. can u help me find a cheap hotle and attractions.thanks
