Why does my distilled Toronto water smell bad?

when water is distilled, all of the cations, anions, and minerals are removed from the water so that distilled water is completely neutral. what your distillation process may be leaving behind is excess chlorine, fluorine or some other aromatic element/compound. if the water is being boiled, bacteria and mold may leave a lingering odor but not that bad., plus, i'm thinking that a municipal water treatment plant in north america has standards by which there is no or little trace (ppm) of contaminants.
