What do you think abouts McCourts lack of quotation marks and overall writing style in Angela's Ashes?

It felt more natural, less stilted. It totally worked with what he was trying to communicate in the book. It especially helped convey his youth to me. It didn't feel like Frank McCourt, older man writing his memoirs; it felt like Frank McCourt, young, poverty-stricken Irish boy.
